First Aid
The principle of first aid that we apply to humans also applies to ferrets.
The aim is to:
- Preserve life
- Protect the injured animal
- Prevent further harm
If a ferret is injured, either at home or in the field, the owner has a ‘duty of care’ to ensure that the animal is treated appropriately.
First aid is not a substitute for qualified veterinary advice and treatment
A first aid kit should contain:
- Lint free cotton pad for applying pressure to stem bleeding and to protect cuts and abrasions.
- A small bottle of clean water and antiseptic to clean scratches and minor abrasions
- Tweezers for the removal of obvious thorns or splinters
